What is a Wallflower? Are you an Introvert?

what is a wallflower?

Being an introvert can be a challenging experience, especially when it comes to social situations. As someone who relates to being a "wallflower," I can attest to this firsthand. However, being an introvert doesn't have to be a negative thing, and there are many ways to embrace your introversion and thrive in your own way. I'm still learning how to embrace and live my life to the fullest.

Firstly, it's essential to understand that being an introvert is not the same as being shy or antisocial. While introverts may prefer smaller social gatherings and may need more alone time to recharge, we can still be outgoing, friendly, and confident when we choose to be. The key is to find a balance that works for you and to embrace your natural tendencies rather than trying to force yourself to fit into a mold that doesn't feel authentic. I very much like being around people and socializing, but at some point it begins to be too much. I need to step back and have a break.

One way to embrace your introversion is to find hobbies and interests that allow you to express yourself in a way that feels comfortable. For me, making crafts and listening to music are activities that I enjoy doing alone, but they also allow me to connect with others who share my passions. Similarly, if you enjoy art, reading, writing, or any other creative pursuits, these can be great ways to connect with like-minded individuals and express yourself in a way that feels natural.

Another way to thrive as an introvert is to learn to say no and set boundaries. As introverts, we often feel pressure to attend every social event and please everyone around us, but this can lead to burnout and exhaustion. Learning to say no to social events that don't align with our values or energy levels is important for maintaining our mental health and well-being. It's also okay to set boundaries with people in our lives who may not understand our introversion and try to push us outside of our comfort zones. I am still learning to take this advice for my mental health.

Finally, it's important to remember that being an introvert is not a flaw or a weakness. We may approach social situations differently than extroverts, but our ability to listen, observe, and think deeply can be valuable assets in many areas of our lives. Embracing our introversion and finding ways to thrive in our own way can lead to a fulfilling and satisfying life, both personally and professionally.

In conclusion, being an introvert/wallflower doesn't have to be a negative thing. By finding hobbies and interests that allow us to express ourselves, learning to say no and set boundaries, and embracing our natural tendencies, we can thrive and find happiness on our own terms. Remember, it's okay to be introverted, and there's no need to try to change who we are to fit in with societal expectations. BE YOURSELF.
